[36] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu had an affliction caused by non-human beings (amanussikābādha). His teachers and preceptors, attending upon him, were unable to make him well. He went to a pig slaughterhouse (sūkarasūna), ate raw flesh, and drank raw blood. His affliction caused by non-human beings subsided. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow, in the case of an affliction caused by non-human beings, raw flesh and raw blood."
