[56] Now at that time in Sāvatthī much fruit for eating had become abundant, but there was no one to make it allowable (kappiyakāraka). The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, did not eat the fruit. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you to eat fruit that is without seed (abīja), or whose seeds have been removed (nibbaṭṭabīja), even though it has not been made allowable (akatakappa)."
