[75] Then the Blessed One approached Koṭigāma. There, it is said, the Blessed One dwelt at Koṭigāma. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, it is through not understanding (ananubodhā), not penetrating (appaṭivedhā) four noble truths (ariyasacca) that this long course has thus been run on and wandered through, both by me and by you. Which four? Bhikkhus, it is through not understanding, not penetrating the noble truth of suffering (dukkha) that this long course has thus been run on and wandered through, both by me and by you; the noble truth of the origin of suffering … the noble truth of the cessation of suffering … it is through not understanding, not penetrating the noble truth of the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering that this long course has thus been run on and wandered through, both by me and by you. Bhikkhus, this noble truth of suffering has been understood, has been penetrated; the noble truth of the origin of suffering has been understood, has been penetrated; the noble truth of the cessation of suffering has been understood, has been penetrated; the noble truth of the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering has been understood, has been penetrated. Craving for existence (bhavataṇhā) has been cut off; the conduit to existence is destroyed; now there is no renewed existence."
