[177] Now at that time the dwellings were overgrown with grass. When a forest fire was blazing, the dwellings were burned. The bhikkhus were scrupulous about lighting a counter-fire (paṭaggi), about making a protection (paritta). They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow, when a forest fire is blazing, the lighting of a counter-fire, the making of a protection."
