[198] At that time the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Veḷuvana, the Squirrels' Feeding Ground (Kalandakanivāpa). Now at that time lodgings (senāsana) had not been prescribed for the bhikkhus by the Blessed One, and those bhikkhus dwelt here and there — in the forest, at the root of a tree, on a mountain, in a mountain cleft, in a hill cave, in a charnel ground, in a forest thicket, in the open air, on a heap of straw. In the early morning they would come out from those various places — from the forest, from the root of the tree, from the mountain, from the mountain cleft, from the hill cave, from the charnel ground, from the forest thicket, from the open air, from the heap of straw — pleasing in their going forward and returning, in their looking ahead and looking aside, in their bending and stretching, their eyes cast down, accomplished in the postures (iriyāpatha).
