[25] Now on that occasion a certain guild had a meal for the Saṅgha (saṅghabhatta). They did not know how to cut the mangoes into slices (ambapesikā); in the refectory they went about serving with whole mangoes. The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, did not accept them. …
"Accept them, bhikkhus, and eat. I allow you, bhikkhus, to eat fruit that has been made allowable for ascetics (samaṇakappa) in five ways: treated with fire, treated with a knife, treated with a fingernail, seedless, and with the seeds removed as the fifth. I allow you, bhikkhus, to eat fruit made allowable for ascetics in these five ways."
