[260] Then the Blessed One, having dwelt at Vesālī for as long as he wished, set out on tour toward Sāvatthī. Now at that time the bhikkhus who were pupils (antevāsika) of the group-of-six bhikkhus, going on ahead, ahead of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha, took possession of the dwellings and took possession of the sleeping-places, saying: "This will be for our preceptors, this will be for our teachers, this will be for us." Then the Venerable Sārīputta, going along behind, behind the Saṅgha of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha, when the dwellings had been taken possession of and the sleeping-places had been taken possession of, not obtaining a sleeping-place, sat down at the foot of a certain tree. Then the Blessed One, having risen in the time before dawn at the end of the night, cleared his throat. The Venerable Sārīputta also cleared his throat.
"Who is there?"
"It is I, Blessed One — Sārīputta."
"Sārīputta, why are you sitting here?"
Then the Venerable Sārīputta informed the Blessed One of that matter.
