[357] But I, Moggallāna, being one of pure virtue (sīla), claim, 'I am of pure virtue,' and, 'My virtue is pure, cleansed, undefiled.' My disciples do not guard me with respect to virtue, nor do I expect guarding with respect to virtue from my disciples. Being one of pure livelihood (ājīva) … Being one whose teaching of the Dhamma is pure (dhammadesanā) … Being one whose expositions are pure (veyyākaraṇa) … Being one of pure knowledge and vision (ñāṇadassana), I claim, 'I am of pure knowledge and vision,' and, 'My knowledge and vision are pure, cleansed, undefiled.' My disciples do not guard me with respect to knowledge and vision, nor do I expect guarding with respect to knowledge and vision from my disciples.
