[391] Then Sārīputta and Moggallāna approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, they sat down to one side. Seated to one side, the Venerable Sārīputta said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, Devadatta, having split the Saṅgha (saṅgha), has taken about five hundred bhikkhus and departed for Gayāsīsa." "Surely, Sārīputta and Moggallāna, you will have compassion for those newly ordained bhikkhus? Go, Sārīputta and Moggallāna, before those bhikkhus fall into ruin and disaster." "Yes, venerable sir," Sārīputta and Moggallāna replied in assent to the Blessed One; and rising from their seats, having paid homage to the Blessed One and circumambulated him keeping him on the right, they went to Gayāsīsa.
