[430] Now at that time a number of bhikkhus were doing robe-making work in the open air. The group-of-six bhikkhus beat out a lodging (senāsana) in the courtyard on the windward side, and the bhikkhus were showered with dust. Those bhikkhus who were of few wishes … they complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the group-of-six bhikkhus beat out a lodging in the courtyard on the windward side, so that the bhikkhus are showered with dust?" Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. …
"Is it true, bhikkhus, as is said, that the group-of-six bhikkhus beat out a lodging in the courtyard on the windward side, and the bhikkhus were showered with dust?"
"It is true, Blessed One." …
Having rebuked them and given a Dhamma talk, he addressed the bhikkhus: "Well then, bhikkhus, I shall lay down for the bhikkhus the duties regarding lodgings (senāsanavatta), such that bhikkhus should conduct themselves properly with regard to lodgings."
