[459] Bhikkhus, just as the great ocean does not abide together with a dead corpse — whatever dead corpse there is in the great ocean, it quickly carries it to the shore and casts it up onto dry land — even so, bhikkhus, whatever person is of bad morality, of evil character, of impure and suspect conduct, concealing in his deeds, not an ascetic though claiming to be an ascetic, not a celibate though claiming to be a celibate, rotten within, oozing, of filthy nature — the Saṅgha does not abide together with him; having assembled, it quickly suspends him. Even though he sits in the midst of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus, still he is far indeed from the Saṅgha, and the Saṅgha from him.
Bhikkhus, that whatever person is of bad morality, of evil character, of impure and suspect conduct, concealing in his deeds, not an ascetic though claiming to be an ascetic, not a celibate though claiming to be a celibate, rotten within, oozing, of filthy nature — the Saṅgha does not abide together with him; having assembled, it quickly suspends him; even though he sits in the midst of the Saṅgha of bhikkhus, still he is far indeed from the Saṅgha, and the Saṅgha from him — this, bhikkhus, is the third wonderful and marvelous quality in this Dhamma and Discipline, seeing which again and again bhikkhus delight in this Dhamma and Discipline.
