[464] Bhikkhus, just as the great ocean is the abode of great beings, and therein are these beings — the timi … asuras, nāgas, gandhabbas; and in the great ocean there are individual bodies (attabhāva) a hundred yojanas in extent, individual bodies two hundred yojanas in extent, individual bodies three hundred yojanas in extent, individual bodies four hundred yojanas in extent, individual bodies five hundred yojanas in extent — even so, bhikkhus, this Dhamma and Discipline is the abode of great beings, and therein are these beings: the stream-enterer (sotāpanna) and the one practising for the realization of the fruit of stream-entry; the once-returner (sakadāgāmī) and the one practising for the realization of the fruit of once-returning; the non-returner (anāgāmī) and the one practising for the realization of the fruit of non-returning; the arahant and the one practising for arahantship. That this Dhamma and Discipline is the abode of great beings, and that therein are these beings — the stream-enterer … the one practising for arahantship — this, bhikkhus, is the eighth wonderful and marvellous quality in this Dhamma and Discipline, seeing which again and again bhikkhus delight in this Dhamma and Discipline.
