[490] When the Pātimokkha has been suspended for a **bhikkhu**, the assembly rises on account of one or another of ten dangers: danger from kings, or danger from thieves, or danger from fire, or danger from water, or danger from human beings, or danger from non-human beings, or danger from wild beasts, or danger from creeping creatures, or danger to life, or danger to the holy life (brahmacariya). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who so wishes, when that person is present in the midst of the Saṅgha, in that residence (āvāsa) or in another residence, should declare: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The discussion of a pārājika concerning the person named so-and-so is unfinished; that matter has not been decided. If it is the right time for the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha decide that matter."
If he obtains this, that is good. If he does not obtain it, then on the uposatha day, on the fourteenth or the fifteenth, when that person is present, it should be declared in the midst of the Saṅgha: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The discussion of a pārājika concerning the person named so-and-so is unfinished; that matter has not been decided. I suspend the Pātimokkha for him. The Pātimokkha should not be recited while he is present."
