Vinayapiṭaka · Cūḷavagga (2) · Vol. 7 · Section 495

[495] When the Pātimokkha has been suspended for a **bhikkhu**, the assembly rises because of one or another of the ten dangers — danger from a king, … or danger to the holy life. Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who wishes, in that dwelling or in another dwelling, when that person is present, may declare in the midst of the Saṅgha: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The talk concerning the person named so-and-so's retraction (paccādāna) of a legitimate concord is left unfinished; that matter is undecided. If it is the right time for the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha decide that matter." If that can be obtained, this is good. If it cannot be obtained, then on the Uposatha day — the fourteenth or the fifteenth — when that person is present, it should be declared in the midst of the Saṅgha: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The talk concerning the person named so-and-so's retraction of a legitimate concord is left unfinished; that matter is undecided. I suspend his Pātimokkha. While he is present, the Pātimokkha should not be recited." This suspension of the Pātimokkha is legitimate.
