[1040] Listen to how that which was spoken of as "pācittiya" came to be so called. It causes the wholesome (kusala) dhamma to fall (pāteti), it offends against the noble path (ariyamagga), and it is an occasion for the confusion of the mind (citta) — therefore it is called thus.
