[1085] Heed the procedure of examination (anuyogavatta),
laid down by one skillful and wise,
well spoken, in conformity with the training rules,
not ruining the destiny that pertains to the life to come.
One unskilled in the ground (vatthu), the failure (vipatti), the offense (āpatti),
the source (nidāna), and the manner (ākāra),
who does not know what comes before and what comes after,
nor, impartially, what has been done and not done;
unskilled also in the formal act (kamma), the legal issue (adhikaraṇa),
and in the settlement (samatha);
lustful, hating, and deluded,
he goes astray from fear and from delusion;
not skilled in convincing (saññatti),
and unskilled in persuasion (nijjhatti);
one who has gained a faction, shameless,
of dark deeds, disrespectful —
such a bhikkhu indeed
is called "one not to be esteemed" (appaṭikkha).
