(Robes worn) even all round (parimaṇḍalaṃ); properly covered; well restrained, with eyes cast down;¹
(robes) hitched up; loud laughter; noise; and the three swayings;
arms akimbo; and head covered;² walking crouched on the heels; and sitting clasping the knees;
attentively; and attending to the bowl; curry in due proportion; level with the brim;
attentively; and attending to the bowl; (eating) methodically; with curry in due measure;
and (not pressing down) from the top of the heap; covering over (the curry); asking (for oneself) and looking (at another's bowl) intent on finding fault;
not a large (mouthful); a rounded morsel; (not opening) the door (of the mouth beforehand); (not) the whole hand (into the mouth); one should not speak (with a mouthful);
tossing up (food); biting off (morsels); stuffing the cheek; shaking (the hand); scattering rice grains;
and putting out the tongue; smacking (capucapu); slurping (surusuru);
the hand, the bowl, and the lips (licking); (not receiving a water vessel with a hand) soiled with food; and (not discarding bowl-water) with rice grains;
The Tathāgatas do not teach the true Dhamma (saddhamma) to one with an umbrella in his hand;
even so, to one with a staff in his hand, to those with a knife or a weapon in hand;
(to one wearing) wooden shoes or sandals, and to one gone into a vehicle or onto a bed;
to one seated clasping the knees, and to one with head wrapped or covered;
(to one seated) on the ground, (oneself) on a low seat, standing, (walking) behind, or off the path;
it should not be done by one standing, on green plants, or in water.
