[845] Therein, what are the five grounds of discipline (vinītavatthu)? In regard to the five classes of offenses (āpattikkhandha): abstaining (ārati), refraining (virati), desisting (paṭivirati), abstinence (veramaṇī), non-doing, non-performing, non-incurring, non-transgression of the boundary, destruction of the bridge (setughāta). These are the five grounds of discipline.
