[848] Therein, what are the seven grounds of discipline (vinītavatthu)? Abstaining (ārati), refraining (virati), desisting (paṭivirati), and abstinence (veramaṇī) from the seven classes of offenses (āpattikkhandha); non-performance, non-doing, non-committing, non-transgression of the limit, the demolition of the bridge (setughāta). These are the seven grounds of discipline.
