[140] When this was said, King Ajātasattu of Magadha, son of the Videhan queen, said to the Blessed One: "Well then, venerable sir, we shall now take our leave; we have many duties, much that must be done." "Do now, great king, whatever you think it is time to do."
Then King Ajātasattu of Magadha, son of the Videhan queen, having delighted in and rejoiced at the Blessed One's words, rose from his seat, paid homage to the Blessed One, circumambulated him keeping his right side towards him, and departed.
Then, not long after King Ajātasattu of Magadha, son of the Videhan queen, had departed, the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, this king is uprooted; bhikkhus, this king is ruined. Bhikkhus, if this king had not deprived his father—a righteous man, a righteous king—of life, then in this very seat there would have arisen in him the dust-free, stainless Eye of the Dhamma (dhammacakkhu)."
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Elated, those bhikkhus delighted in the Blessed One's words.
The Sāmaññaphala Sutta, the second, is concluded.
