[162] "But what, worthy Gotama, is that conduct (caraṇa), and what is that true knowledge (vijjā)?"
"Ambaṭṭha, in the unsurpassed accomplishment in true knowledge and conduct there is no talk of birth, no talk of clan, and no talk of pride—'You are worthy of me' or 'You are not worthy of me.' Wherever there is a giving in marriage, a taking in marriage, or a giving and taking in marriage, there such things are spoken of: talk of birth, or talk of clan, or talk of pride—'You are worthy of me' or 'You are not worthy of me.' For whoever, Ambaṭṭha, are bound up in talk of birth, bound up in talk of clan, bound up in talk of pride, or bound up in giving and taking in marriage—they are far from the unsurpassed accomplishment in true knowledge and conduct. It is by abandoning bondage to talk of birth, bondage to talk of clan, bondage to talk of pride, and bondage to giving and taking in marriage, Ambaṭṭha, that the realization of the unsurpassed accomplishment in true knowledge and conduct comes about."
