[168] "But, Ambaṭṭha, these words were spoken by your teacher, the brahmin Pokkharasāti: 'Who are these shaveling petty ascetics, menials, dark ones, offspring from the feet of our Kinsman, that they should converse with brahmins possessed of the threefold knowledge?' — while he himself has not fulfilled even one of the causes of falling away. See, Ambaṭṭha, how greatly your teacher, the brahmin Pokkharasāti, has wronged you in this.
Moreover, Ambaṭṭha, the brahmin Pokkharasāti enjoys a grant bestowed by King Pasenadi of Kosala; yet King Pasenadi of Kosala does not grant him even an audience face to face. When he consults with him, he consults from behind a curtain. How is it, Ambaṭṭha, that King Pasenadi of Kosala would not grant even a face-to-face audience to the very one who accepts the lawfully presented alms-food from him? See, Ambaṭṭha, how greatly your teacher, the brahmin Pokkharasāti, has wronged you in this."
