[191] When this was said, the brahmin Soṇadaṇḍa said to the Blessed One: "Let the worthy Gotama desist; let the worthy Gotama remain silent. I myself shall make reply to them legitimately (sahadhammena)."
Then Soṇadaṇḍa said to those brahmins: "Do not speak thus, sirs; do not speak thus: 'The worthy brahmin Soṇadaṇḍa disparages appearance, disparages the hymns, disparages birth; assuredly the worthy brahmin Soṇadaṇḍa is going over entirely to the doctrine of the ascetic Gotama himself.' Sirs, I do not disparage appearance, or the hymns, or birth."
