[199] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One, while wandering on tour in the Magadhan country together with a large Saṅgha of bhikkhus, about five hundred bhikkhus, arrived at a brahmin village of the Magadhans named Khānumatta. There the Blessed One dwelt at Khānumatta, in the Ambalaṭṭhikā grove. Now on that occasion the brahmin Kūṭadanta was dwelling in Khānumatta — a place teeming with living beings, abounding in grass, wood, and water, rich in grain, a royal domain given by Seniya Bimbisāra, King of Magadha, as a royal grant, a brahmin's entitlement (brahmadeyya).
