[204] When this was said, those brahmins said to the brahmin Kūṭadanta: "Given the way in which the worthy Kūṭadanta speaks in praise of the ascetic Gotama, even if that worthy Gotama were dwelling a hundred yojanas from here, it would be fitting for a clansman endowed with faith to go to see him, even carrying provisions in a knapsack." Kūṭadanta said: "Well then, sirs, let us all go to see the ascetic Gotama."
Then the brahmin Kūṭadanta, together with a great company of brahmins, approached Ambalaṭṭhikā, where the Blessed One was. Having approached, he exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when the courteous and memorable talk was concluded, he sat down to one side. As for the brahmins and householders of Khāṇumata: some paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when the courteous and memorable talk was concluded, sat down to one side; some raised their joined palms in salutation toward the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some announced their name and clan and sat down to one side; some remained silent and sat down to one side.
Seated to one side, the brahmin Kūṭadanta said to the Blessed One: "Worthy Gotama, I have heard this: 'The ascetic Gotama knows the threefold accomplishment of sacrifice (yaññasampadā) with its sixteen accessories.' Now I do not know the threefold accomplishment of sacrifice with its sixteen accessories, yet I wish to perform a great sacrifice. It would be good if the worthy Gotama would teach me the threefold accomplishment of sacrifice with its sixteen accessories."
