[221] Then, brahmin, while King Mahāvijita was performing the great sacrifice, the brahmin high priest instructed, encouraged, roused, and gladdened the king's mind (citta) in sixteen respects:
'Now, while the king is performing the great sacrifice, someone might say: "King Mahāvijita performs a great sacrifice, but he did not invite the aristocrat vassals of both town and country; and yet the king performs such a great sacrifice." One who would speak thus of the king has no legitimate ground. For the king did indeed invite the aristocrat vassals of both town and country. By this too let the king know it: let the king sacrifice, let the king relinquish, let the king rejoice, and let the king make his mind serene within.'
