[233] "But, Master Gotama, is there any other sacrifice that, compared with this threefold … is of greater benefit?"
"There is, brahmin, another sacrifice …"
"But what, Master Gotama, is that other sacrifice …?"
"Brahmin, when one with a confident mind goes to the Buddha for refuge, goes to the Dhamma for refuge, goes to the Saṅgha for refuge — this, brahmin, is a sacrifice that, compared with this threefold accomplishment of sacrifice (yaññasampadā) with its sixteen accessories (parikkhāra), and compared with this regular giving as a propitious sacrifice (niccadāna anukūlayañña), and compared with this gift of a dwelling (vihāradāna), requires less expense and less preparation, and is of greater fruit and greater benefit."
