[244] "Here, Mahāli, a bhikkhu has concentration (samādhi) developed in one aspect (ekaṃsabhāvita) toward the eastern quarter, for the seeing of divine forms — pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust — but not for the hearing of divine sounds, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust. When his concentration has been developed in one aspect toward the eastern quarter for the seeing of divine forms — pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust — but not for the hearing of divine sounds, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust, he sees in the eastern quarter divine forms, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust, but does not hear divine sounds, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust. What is the reason for that? Because this is how it is, Mahāli, for a bhikkhu when concentration has been developed in one aspect toward the eastern quarter for the seeing of divine forms — pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust — but not for the hearing of divine sounds, pleasing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust."
