[275] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery. Now on that occasion the wanderer (paribbājaka) Poṭṭhapāda was residing in Mallikā's Park — the hall for the debating of doctrines, having a single pavilion, ringed about with a hedge of tiṇḍuka trees — together with a great assembly of wanderers, some three thousand wanderers in all. Then the Blessed One, having dressed in the morning, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Then it occurred to the Blessed One: "It is still too early to walk for alms in Sāvatthī. What if I were to approach Mallikā's Park — the hall for the debating of doctrines, with its single pavilion, ringed about with a hedge of tiṇḍuka trees — where the wanderer Poṭṭhapāda is?" Then the Blessed One approached Mallikā's Park, the hall for the debating of doctrines, with its single pavilion, ringed about with a hedge of tiṇḍuka trees.
