[315] Now at that time the student Subha, Todeyya's son, was residing in Sāvatthī on some business. Then the student Subha, Todeyya's son, addressed a certain young student: "Come, young student, go to where the ascetic Ānanda is; and having approached, ask in my name whether the ascetic Ānanda is free from affliction, free from illness, light in movement, strong, and dwelling in comfort, saying: 'The student Subha, Todeyya's son, asks whether the worthy Ānanda is free from affliction, free from illness, light in movement, strong, and dwelling in comfort.' And say this: 'It would be good if the worthy Ānanda would come to the residence of the student Subha, Todeyya's son, out of compassion.'"
"Yes, sir," that young student replied to the student Subha, Todeyya's son, and he went to where the Venerable Ānanda was. Having approached, he exchanged greetings with the Venerable Ānanda, and when that courteous and memorable talk was concluded, he sat down at one side. Seated at one side, that young student said this to the Venerable Ānanda: "The student Subha, Todeyya's son, asks whether the worthy Ānanda is free from affliction, free from illness, light in movement, strong, and dwelling in comfort; and he says this: 'It would be good if the worthy Ānanda would come to the residence of the student Subha, Todeyya's son, out of compassion.'"
