[107] "Lord of the forest" (vanappati) means a tree that is possessed by human beings, a tree fit for use. If, with a mind of theft (theyyacitta), he cuts it, for each and every blow there is an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa). When one blow remains before it is severed, there is an offense of grave transgression (thullaccaya). When that blow has been delivered, there is an offense entailing defeat (pārājika).
