[120] "Making a sign (nimittakamma)" means: he makes a sign — "I shall wink my eye," or "I shall raise my eyebrow," or "I shall raise my head; at that sign, take that article by theft" — there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). If, at that sign, [the other] takes that article by theft, there is an offense entailing defeat (pārājika) for both. If he takes that article by theft either before or after that sign, there is no offense for the originator of the instruction (mūlaṭṭha); there is an offense entailing defeat for the one who takes it (avahāraka).
