[137] Now at that time several bhikkhus, descending from Mount Gijjhakūṭa, saw the leftovers of a lion's kill (sīhavighāsa), had them cooked, and ate them. Remorse (kukkucca) arose in them. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, there is no offense in the case of the leftovers of a lion's kill."
Now at that time several bhikkhus, descending from Mount Gijjhakūṭa, saw the leftovers of a tiger's kill … saw the leftovers of a leopard's kill … saw the leftovers of a hyena's kill … saw the leftovers of a wolf's kill, had them cooked, and ate them. Remorse arose in them. … "Bhikkhus, there is no offense in the case of what is the possession of an animal (tiracchānagata-pariggaha)."
