[162] Now at that time, thieves in the Andhavana forest near Sāvatthī, having killed a cow and eaten the meat, hid the remainder and departed. Bhikkhus, perceiving it as abandoned refuse (paṃsukūla), had it formally received and ate it. The thieves accused those bhikkhus: "You are not ascetics!" They were remorseful (kukkucca) … "Bhikkhus, there is no offence (anāpatti) for one who perceives it as abandoned refuse."
