[171] Now at that time, in Campā, a bhikkhunī who was a pupil (antevāsī) of the bhikkhunī Thullanandā went to a family that supported the bhikkhunī Thullanandā and, saying, "The lady wishes to drink conjey made with the three pungent ingredients (tekaṭulayāgu)," had it cooked, carried it off, and consumed it herself. Thullanandā, coming to know of it, charged her: "You are no ascetic!" She was stricken with remorse. Then that bhikkhunī told this matter to the bhikkhunīs. The bhikkhunīs told this matter to the bhikkhus. The bhikkhus told this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, there is no offence of pārājika; there is an offence of pācittiya for deliberate false speech (sampajānamusāvāda)."
Now at that time, in Rājagaha, a bhikkhunī who was a pupil of the bhikkhunī Thullanandā went to a family that supported the bhikkhunī Thullanandā and, saying, "The lady wishes to eat a honey-ball (madhugoḷaka)," had it cooked, carried it off, and consumed it herself. Thullanandā, coming to know of it, charged her: "You are no ascetic!" She was stricken with remorse. … "Bhikkhus, there is no offence of pārājika; there is an offence of pācittiya for deliberate false speech."
