[197] "A leaning-object (apassena)" means: he places a knife against the leaning-object, or smears it with poison, or makes it weak, or sets it up beside a pit, a chasm, or a precipice, thinking, "Falling by means of this, he will die" — there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). If, through the knife, or the poison, or the falling, painful feeling (vedanā) arises, there is an offense of grave transgression (thullaccaya). If he dies, there is an offense entailing defeat (pārājika).
