[225] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having gone to the place of execution, said to the executioner: "Friend, do not make this man suffer; deprive him of life with a single blow." "Very well, venerable sir," he replied, and deprived him of life with a single blow. That bhikkhu was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence (āpatti) entailing defeat (pārājika)."

Saying, "I will not do as you say," he deprived him of life. That bhikkhu was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, there is no offence entailing defeat; there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
