*(Summary verse)*
Overestimation (adhimāna); in the forest; alms-food; the preceptor; the postures (iriyāpatha);
the fetters; dhammas in private; the dwelling; attending upon;
"Not difficult"; energy; then also of death
the fear, friend; the one with remorse; rightly;
through energy, through application, on attainment;
then two on the enduring of feeling (vedanā);
five cases concerning brahmins; three on the declaring of final knowledge (aññā);
the household; sensual pleasures as obstruction; and delight; he departed.
The skeleton and the lump of flesh — both were cattle-butchers;
the lump (of flesh), a fowler; the flayed one, a sheep-butcher;
the sword(-haired), a pig-butcher; the spear(-haired), a deer-hunter;
the arrow(-haired), a torturer; the needle(-haired), a charioteer;
and he who is stitched through (with needles) — he indeed was a slanderer;
the bearer of (swollen) testicles was a corrupt village magistrate;
he who was plunged in the (cess)pit was an adulterer;
the eater of dung was a wicked brahmin;
the flayed woman was an adulteress;
the foul woman was a fortune-teller;
the scorched woman poured coals over her co-wife;
the one with severed head was an executioner of thieves;
a bhikkhu, a bhikkhunī, a sikkhamānā,
a sāmaṇera, then a sāmaṇerī —
gone forth in the dispensation of Kassapa,
they did those evil deeds at that very time.
The Tapodā; the battle at Rājagaha; and the plunging of the elephants into the water;
Sobhita, the arahant bhikkhu, recollects five hundred eons (kappa).
