Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (1) · Vol. 1 · Section 299

[299] Then the Venerable Sobhita addressed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I recollect five hundred eons (kappa)." The bhikkhus complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the Venerable Sobhita say this: 'Friends, I recollect five hundred eons'? The Venerable Sobhita is laying claim to a superhuman state (uttarimanussadhamma)!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, Sobhita does have this [recollection]; and that, indeed, was just one single birth. Bhikkhus, Sobhita spoke the truth. Bhikkhus, there is no offence for Sobhita." The Fourth Pārājika is concluded. _____________________________
