[422] Now at that time a certain barren woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "How, venerable sir, might I give birth?" "Then, sister, give the foremost gift (aggadāna)." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse (methunadhamma)." He was remorseful … He informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain child-bearing woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "How, venerable sir, might I not conceive a child?" "Then, sister, give the foremost gift." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "How, venerable sir, might I be dear to my husband?" "Then, sister, give the foremost gift." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "How, venerable sir, might I be fortunate?" "Then, sister, give the foremost gift." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "What, venerable sir, shall I give to the master?" "The foremost gift, sister." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "With what, venerable sir, shall I attend upon the master?" "With the foremost gift, sister." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." Now at that time a certain woman said this to a bhikkhu who frequented her family: "How, venerable sir, might I go to a good destination?" "Then, sister, give the foremost gift." "What, venerable sir, is the foremost gift?" "Sexual intercourse." He was remorseful: "Could it be that I have committed a saṅghādisesa offence?" He informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offence, a saṅghādisesa." The Fourth Saṅghādisesa is finished. ____________________ THE FIFTH SAṄGHĀDISESA
