[107] Then the Blessed One went to the attendance hall (upaṭṭhānasālā) and, having approached, sat down on the seat that had been prepared. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Therefore, bhikkhus, those teachings (dhammā) which I have taught to you, having realized them with direct knowledge (abhiññā) — those you should learn well, and then pursue, develop, and cultivate, so that this holy life (brahmacariya) may endure and stand long; that will be for the welfare of the many, for the happiness of the many, out of compassion for the world, for the good, the welfare, and the happiness of devas and human beings. And what, bhikkhus, are those teachings which I have taught, having realized them with direct knowledge, which you should learn well, and then pursue, develop, and cultivate, so that this holy life may endure and stand long; that will be for the welfare of the many, for the happiness of the many, out of compassion for the world, for the good, the welfare, and the happiness of devas and human beings? They are these: the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), the four right strivings (sammappadhāna), the four bases of psychic power (iddhipāda), the five faculties (indriya), the five powers (bala), the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), and the noble eightfold path (magga). These, bhikkhus, are the teachings which I have taught, having realized them with direct knowledge, which you should learn well, and then pursue, develop, and cultivate, so that this holy life may endure and stand long; that will be for the welfare of the many, for the happiness of the many, out of compassion for the world, for the good, the welfare, and the happiness of devas and human beings."
Then the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Come now, bhikkhus, I declare to you: conditioned things (saṅkhārā) are subject to decay; bring [your task] to accomplishment through diligence. Not long hence will be the final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) of the Tathāgata; three months from now the Tathāgata will attain final Nibbāna."
This the Blessed One said. Having said this, the Sugata, the Teacher, further spoke thus:
