[131] "Venerable sir, formerly bhikkhus who had spent the rains in the various regions would come to see the Tathāgata, and we would get to see those bhikkhus who inspire the mind (manobhāvanīya) and get to attend upon them. But, venerable sir, after the passing of the Blessed One we shall no longer get to see the bhikkhus who inspire the mind, nor get to attend upon them."
"Ānanda, there are these four places to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency (saṃvejanīya), for a clansman endowed with faith. What are the four? 'Here the Tathāgata was born'—this, Ānanda, is a place to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency, for a clansman endowed with faith. 'Here the Tathāgata awakened to the unsurpassed perfect self-awakening'—this, Ānanda, is a place to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency, for a clansman endowed with faith. 'Here the unsurpassed Wheel of Dhamma was set rolling by the Tathāgata'—this, Ānanda, is a place to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency, for a clansman endowed with faith. 'Here the Tathāgata attained final Nibbāna in the Nibbāna-element without residue remaining'—this, Ānanda, is a place to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency, for a clansman endowed with faith. These, Ānanda, are the four places to be seen, arousing a sense of urgency, for a clansman endowed with faith.
"Faithful bhikkhus, bhikkhunīs, laymen, and laywomen will come, [reflecting]: 'Here the Tathāgata was born,' 'Here the Tathāgata awakened to the unsurpassed perfect self-awakening,' 'Here the unsurpassed Wheel of Dhamma was set rolling by the Tathāgata,' and 'Here the Tathāgata attained final Nibbāna in the Nibbāna-element without residue remaining.' And whoever, Ānanda, while wandering on pilgrimage to the shrines (cetiya), should die with a mind of confidence, all of them, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, will be reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world."
