[208] "This matter, venerable sir, Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra declared to the gods of the Thirty-three (Tāvatiṃsa). This matter the great king Vessavaṇa — heard face to face and received face to face as Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra was speaking to the gods of the Thirty-three — announced to his own assembly."
This matter the yakkha Janavasabha — heard face to face and received face to face as the great king Vessavaṇa was speaking to his own assembly — announced to the Blessed One. This matter the Blessed One, having heard it face to face and received it face to face from the yakkha Janavasabha, and having also known it himself by direct knowledge (abhiññā), announced to the venerable Ānanda. This matter the venerable Ānanda, having heard it face to face and received it face to face from the Blessed One, announced to the bhikkhus, the bhikkhunīs, the laymen, and the laywomen. Thus this spiritual life (brahmacariya) has become successful and prosperous, widespread, known to many, grown great, until it is well proclaimed as far as gods and humans.
End of the Janavasabha Sutta, the fifth.
