[229] (Mahāgovinda:)
"What among men, O Brahmā, are the foul odors (āmagandhā)?
Not knowing these, [I ask]: declare them here, O wise one.
Enveloped by what do people reek and fester,
bound for states of woe (āpāyika), shut out from the Brahmā-world?"
(Sanaṅkumāra:)
"Anger, false speech, fraud, and treachery,
miserliness, arrogance (atimāna), envy,
longing, doubt (vicikicchā), and the harming of others,
greed, hatred, intoxication (mada), and delusion—
those yoked to these are not free of the foul odor;
they are bound for states of woe, shut out from the Brahmā-world."
