Mahāgovindasutta

Suttapiṭaka · Dīghanikāya · Mahāvagga · Vol. 10 · Section 230

[230] "As I understand the honorable one speaking of these putrid odors (āmagandha), they are not easily quelled by one dwelling in the home. Sir, I shall go forth from the home life into homelessness." "Let the worthy Govinda do now whatever he thinks it is time for." Then, sirs, the brahmin Mahāgovinda approached King Reṇu; having approached, he said this to King Reṇu: "Let your honor now seek another high priest (purohita), one who will administer the realm for your honor. I wish, sir, to go forth from the home life into homelessness. For as I have heard the Brahmā speaking of putrid odors, they are not easily quelled by one dwelling in the home. Sir, I shall go forth from the home life into homelessness."
