[242] And the eastern quarter
King Dhataraṭṭha rules,
lord of the gandhabbas;
a great king is he, glorious.
Many too are his sons,
named Inda, of great strength,
possessed of psychic power (iddhi), radiant,
endowed with beauty, glorious;
rejoicing, they came forth
to the wood, the assembly of bhikkhus.
And the southern quarter
King Virūḷha rules,
lord of the kumbhaṇḍas;
a great king is he, glorious.
Many too are his sons,
named Inda, of great strength,
possessed of psychic power, radiant,
endowed with beauty, glorious;
rejoicing, they came forth
to the wood, the assembly of bhikkhus.
And the western quarter
King Virūpakkha rules,
lord of the nāgas;
a great king is he, glorious.
Many too are his sons,
named Inda, of great strength,
possessed of psychic power, radiant,
endowed with beauty, glorious;
rejoicing, they came forth
to the wood, the assembly of bhikkhus.
And the northern quarter
King Kuvera rules,
lord of the yakkhas;
a great king is he, glorious.

rejoicing, they came forth
to the wood, the assembly of bhikkhus.
The eastern quarter, Dhataraṭṭha;
by the south, Virūḷhaka;
by the west, Virūpakkha;
Kuvera, the northern quarter:
those Four Great Kings,
all around the four quarters,
stood blazing brilliantly
in the wood of Kapilavatthu.
