[323] "Well then, chieftain, I shall give you a simile; for by means of a simile some wise persons here understand the meaning of what is said. Once upon a time, chieftain, two dice-gamblers played at dice. One gambler swallowed the losing die each time it came up. The second gambler saw that gambler swallowing the losing die each time it came up; and having seen this, he said to that gambler: 'Friend, you win every single time! Give me the dice, friend; I shall make an offering with them.' 'Very well, friend,' said that gambler, and gave the dice to the other gambler. Then that gambler steeped the dice in poison and said to the other gambler: 'Come, friend, let us play at dice.' 'Very well, friend,' the other gambler assented. And a second time those gamblers played at dice. And a second time that gambler swallowed the losing die each time it came up.
