[71] "Bhikkhus, I shall teach you another seven principles of non-decline (aparihāniyā dhammā). Listen to it, attend closely, and I shall speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this:
"Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not delight in activity, are not devoted to activity, and are not given over to delighting in activity, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not delight in talk, are not devoted to talk, and are not given over to delighting in talk, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not delight in sleep, are not devoted to sleep, and are not given over to delighting in sleep, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not delight in company, are not devoted to company, and are not given over to delighting in company, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus are not of evil wishes and do not come under the sway of evil wishes, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not have evil friends, evil companions, and evil intimates, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus do not come to a stop midway on account of some lesser attainment of distinction, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as these seven principles of non-decline stand among the bhikkhus, and so long as the bhikkhus are seen conforming to these seven principles of non-decline, growth alone is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline."
