[72] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you another seven principles that prevent decline (aparihāniyā dhammā). Listen to it, attend carefully; I will speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, so long as the bhikkhus have faith (saddhā) … so long as they have minds endowed with moral shame (hiri); so long as they have moral dread (ottappa); so long as they are learned (bahussutā); so long as they have energy aroused (āraddhavīriyā); so long as they have mindfulness established; so long as they are endowed with wisdom (paññavanto) — only growth is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline.
Bhikkhus, so long as these seven principles that prevent decline stand firm among the bhikkhus, and so long as the bhikkhus are seen conforming to these seven principles that prevent decline, only growth is to be expected for the bhikkhus, not decline."
