[83] Then Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, approached the Blessed One; having approached, they exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when they had concluded the courteous and memorable talk, they stood to one side. Standing to one side, Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, said this to the Blessed One: "Sir, may the worthy Gotama together with the community of bhikkhus consent to accept our meal for today." The Blessed One consented by silence. Then Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, knowing that the Blessed One had consented, went to their own rest-house; having gone there, they had excellent hard and soft foods prepared in their own rest-house, and had the time announced to the Blessed One: "It is time, worthy Gotama; the meal is ready."
Then the Blessed One, in the morning, having dressed and taken bowl and robe, together with the community of bhikkhus went to the rest-house of Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha; having gone there, he sat down on the seat prepared. Then Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, with their own hands served and satisfied the community of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha with excellent hard and soft foods. Then, when the Blessed One had finished eating and had withdrawn his hand from the bowl, Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, took a certain low seat and sat down to one side. And as Sunidha and Vassakāra, the chief ministers of Magadha, sat to one side, the Blessed One expressed his appreciation to them with these verses:
